TOEIC FLEX Speaking Test for English Language Teachers
Speaking Test Directions

This is a preliminary model of a speaking test for English language teachers. It was designed, written, recorded and formatted for online delivery by Jason Renshaw at Kyungpook National University in Daegu, South Korea. It draws on the basic format of the TOEIC speaking test from ETS, with modifications and additions to make it appropriate for measuring the practical and professional speaking abilities of secondary school teachers of English as a foreign language.

The test includes fifteen questions divided into 7 parts. Parts A, B, C, and D are designed to test your speaking ability relative to actual classroom teaching processes. Parts E, F, and G are geared towards measuring your ability to talk about teaching methodology and collaborate collegially with other English language teaching professionals.

The test lasts approximately 25-30 minutes in real time.

For each type of question, you will be given specific directions, including the time allowed for preparation and speaking.

You have two different options for recording your answers to this test: video/audio or audio-only. Video/audio is recommended over audio-only, as it allows you to use non-verbal language to assist your responses and project confidence while you speak. To use the video/audio option, you will need a webcam and microphone, and a membership with Eyejot (free and simple sign up is available). For audio-only, you will need to be a registered Chinswing member (also free and easy to complete).

It is to your advantage to say as much as you can in the time allowed. It is also important that you speak clearly and that you answer each question according to the directions.
